Patterned Imprinted Concrete
Patterned imprinted concrete (PIC) is a groundbreaking skilled technique. This method uses colours and patterns to decorate concrete driveways, patios, and paths. This gives concrete the appearance of natural materials like stone, slate, and timber. This process eliminates the high price of natural products.
Minimal Maintenance
Patterned concrete offers a unique product with minimal maintenance. It performs well over other products like flagstones or tarmac. Many problems can be eliminated by using a dolomite subbase and four inches fibre reinforced concrete. These issues include sinking and weeds as well as moss. Alternative products are available. You will also encounter problems with block paving, woodrot, and pest control when you have wooden decked patio areas.

What is Pattern Imprinted Concrete?
Simply put, patterned concrete, also known as stamped concrete, involves pouring concrete on a base, then applying a colour and finally a hardener. This is very different from traditional concreting where blocks were used to create your finish.
The pattern is applied after the concrete has drained. You can choose from many different prints, such as brickwork or textured stone. For driveway lining, patterned concrete is a popular option for domestic properties.
Good quality print
The quality of printed concrete is the most important aspect to consider. Laying fresh concrete takes extreme care and dedication. Otherwise, the concrete will become inconsistent and cause a poor floor.
In most cases, contractors would use six to eight rigid printing matsa along with one flexible mat in each set. To span the narrowest part of the driveway, six mats will be required. Flexible mats, on the other hand, are used to access print areas and print in places where the rigid mats won’t.
Most printing mats will measure 600 x 600 mm. However, there are many options for matt sizes. You just need to decide how large you want them to be and then search the best prices.
Colour Consistency
To ensure that your flooring is the right colour, you need to be aware of how imprinted concrete will look. Patterned concrete consists of two main components: colour surface hardener, and antique release agents.
Poor final appearance can be caused by poor application of colour surface hardener. This is especially true for larger commercial jobs like retail shop flooring.
Concrete deliveries will be required for large commercial jobs. Each concrete mix will have slight colour differences. The job of the surface hardener, when applied, is to match the colours. This is especially useful for larger jobs that may take several days.
Ensuring Long-Term Durability
To ensure the durability of concrete floors above, the material used to sub-stone the base must be merged with the subgrade.
A concrete mix is also important in ensuring structural integrity will remain strong for many years.
This is especially important when you live in areas with high traffic, such as driveways and multi-storey car parkings.
Reduce the Chance of the Concrete Cracking
Concrete patterned for driveways must contain at least 300kgs per cubic metre.
For colder weather, you’ll need more, approximately 350-380kg.
You can also add an air entertainment agent to improve the floor’s durability.
Reducing Maintenance & Maximising Results
The overall appearance of patterned concrete can be improved by using a solvent-based acrylic sealing agent (only after it is dry). Water-based acrylics can be more difficult to use on patterned concrete, so avoid them.
For a beautiful appearance, sealant should be applied every four to five years.
It isn’t mandatory but it will help keep your driveway, or wherever we have patterned concrete installed, looking amazing for many years.
